Colposcopy is a form of examination of the cervix, which allows for a magnified view using specialized binoculars. Colposcopy is recommended to obtain a diagnosis following a smear test abnormality. At the colposcopy appointment, the colposcopist may offer treatment at the same time, or may take a sample (biopsy) from the cervix to make a diagnosis prior to offering treatment.
